Rate-case watch

Electric rate cases by state

49 pending residential electric rate cases before the regulators of 31 states, and 120 closed (73 decided, 45 settled, and 2 withdrawn) in the last 24 months, across all 50 states and DC. Each comes from the regulator's docket or the utility's own filing, researched October 18, 2026.

What a rate case is

A utility that wants to charge more for delivering electricity files a request with the state regulator, which reviews it in public, hears from customers and decides what the utility may collect. Most cases take several months to a year, and what is approved is often less than what was asked.

Requested is the annual revenue increase the utility asked for; typical bill is the monthly change for a typical home as the regulator or utility states it. Both are what was asked, not what will be approved.

Latest in Oklahoma

Pending and recent rate cases before the Oklahoma Corporation Commission

3 pending cases and 1 decided in the last 24 months, from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission's dockets and the utilities' own filings. Researched October 18, 2026.

  • OG&E (Oklahoma Gas and Electric)

    PendingDocket PUD 2026-000067

OG&E filed a rate review on September 30, 2026, its first in nearly three years, and says the request would add $23.88 a month for an average home. A public hearing is expected in spring 2027, and the earliest new rates could start is about six months after filing.

    PendingDocket PUD 2026-000048

Liberty asked the commission on August 14, 2026 to raise base rates for its roughly 4,900 Oklahoma customers in two steps. It says a home using about 1,000 kWh would pay about $29.51 more a month in year one, about 18%, and another $29.51 in year two, with new rates expected in early 2027.

  • PSO (Public Service Company of Oklahoma)

    PendingDocket PUD 2025-000075

PSO asked in January 2026 for a $299 million annual base rate increase. A June 2026 partial settlement would cut that to $73 million, interim rates reflecting the settlement took effect July 1, 2026, and the commission is still reviewing the case.

Method

How the cases are collected and checked

Each state's list covers base-rate cases for residential electric service that were filed or decided in the last 24 months, plus any case still pending however long ago it was filed. Fuel and purchased-power adjustments are included only when the regulator's own page states what they mean for a residential bill.

Sources are limited to the regulator's docket and news pages and the utility's own filings and press releases. No news articles or aggregators. A figure appears only if one of the case's cited sources states it; otherwise the cell is left blank rather than estimated.

Before a state is published, a script checks the file's structure and dates and confirms that every docket link and source still resolves. Pending cases whose decision date has passed are flagged for a recheck. Requested and approved amounts are annual revenue increases for the utility as a whole, which is why the typical-home bill impact is shown separately when the source gives one.
