Quick Answer
Oncor delivers electricity to over 3.5 million Texas customers. But Oncor does not sell electricity—your REP does. Knowing when to call Oncor and when to call your REP saves time and gets your issue resolved faster. Here are all Oncor contact numbers and what each one handles.
Oncor Customer Service Phone Numbers
Oncor Electric Delivery is the largest TDU in Texas, delivering power to over 3.5 million customer accounts across North, Central, and West Texas.[1] Here are the key Oncor phone numbers you need.
Oncor customer service: 1-888-313-6862 — General inquiries, new service requests, meter questions, and service address verification. Available Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM Central.
Oncor outage reporting: 1-888-313-6862 (same number, select outage option) — Report power outages 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The automated system logs your outage and provides estimated restoration times.
Oncor emergency line: 1-888-313-6862 — Report downed power lines, sparking equipment, or other electrical emergencies. Available 24/7. For immediate life-threatening emergencies, call 911 first.
Oncor text outage reporting: Text OUT to 66267 (ONCOR) from a registered phone number to report an outage without calling.
When to Call Oncor vs Your REP
The most common confusion in the Texas electricity market: calling the wrong company. Oncor handles delivery. Your REP handles billing and rates. Here is the split.
Call Oncor for:
- Power outages (no electricity at your address)
- Downed or damaged power lines
- Flickering lights or voltage issues
- Street light outages in Oncor territory
- New electric service connections
- Meter issues (not reading, damaged, inaccessible)
- Tree trimming requests near power lines
Call your REP for:
- Billing questions and payment arrangements
- Rate and plan changes or renewals
- Starting or stopping electric service
- High bill disputes
- Switching to a different plan
- Early termination fee questions
- Autopay and paperless billing setup
Not sure who your REP is? Check your electric bill. Your REP name and contact information are on the front page. You can also call Oncor at 1-888-313-6862 and they can tell you which REP currently serves your ESID.
How to Report an Oncor Power Outage
Oncor responds to power outages faster when they are reported quickly. Multiple reports from the same area help Oncor identify the scope of an outage and dispatch the right crew.
Step 1: Check your breakers first. Before reporting to Oncor, verify the outage is not internal. Check your main breaker and circuit panel. If your neighbors have power but you do not, the issue may be your home's electrical system rather than Oncor's grid.
Step 2: Report the outage. Call 1-888-313-6862 or text OUT to 66267. The automated system asks for your phone number or service address to identify your account. You will receive a confirmation and estimated restoration time.
Step 3: Check the Oncor outage map. Visit stormcenter.oncor.com to see real-time outage data including affected areas, customer counts, and crew status. Our Oncor outage map guide explains how to read the map and understand restoration priorities.
Step 4: Stay safe. Treat all downed wires as live. Stay at least 35 feet away. Do not drive over downed lines. Report downed lines to 911 and then Oncor.
Oncor New Service and Move-In Process
Starting new electric service in Oncor territory requires choosing a REP first. Oncor does not sell electricity—you must have an active REP before Oncor will energize your meter.
For existing homes (move-in):
1. Choose a REP by comparing plans at ElectricRates.org
2. Enroll with your chosen REP at least 3-5 business days before your move-in date
3. Your REP submits a service order to Oncor—you do not need to contact Oncor separately
4. Oncor processes the switch and your power is ready on the scheduled date
For new construction:
1. Your builder or electrician requests a new service connection from Oncor
2. Oncor assigns an ESID and installs the meter
3. You choose a REP and enroll, providing the new ESID
4. Oncor energizes the meter on your REP's service start date
Timeline: Standard move-in switches take 1-3 business days. Priority same-day service is available for urgent situations through most REPs for an additional fee. Read the full Texas new service guide for all scenarios.
Understanding Oncor Delivery Charges on Your Bill
Oncor delivery charges appear on every electric bill in Oncor territory. These charges are regulated by the PUCT and are the same regardless of which REP you choose.[2]
Components of Oncor delivery charges:
Metering charge: Fixed monthly fee for maintaining your meter and reading equipment. Applies to all accounts regardless of usage.
Delivery charge (per kWh): Variable charge based on your actual electricity consumption. This is the largest component of Oncor's charges.
Transmission cost recovery factor: Per-kWh charge covering Oncor's cost of moving power from generators to distribution lines.
System benefit fund: Small per-kWh charge funding low-income assistance programs.
Oncor delivery charges typically add 3-5 cents per kWh to your all-in electricity cost, depending on usage level. Your REP collects these charges on Oncor's behalf and passes them through on your bill.

Verify your TDU: Enter your ZIP code at ElectricRates.org and the system automatically identifies whether Oncor or another TDU serves your address. Some ZIP codes are split between TDUs.
Oncor Smart Meters and Usage Data Access
Oncor has deployed smart meters across its entire service territory, recording electricity usage every 15 minutes. This data helps you understand consumption patterns and choose the right electricity plan.
Access your Oncor smart meter data through:
Smart Meter Texas: Register at smartmetertexas.com using your ESID, REP account number, and meter number. Download 15-minute interval data, daily usage summaries, and Green Button formatted files.
Your REP's portal: Most REPs display usage data from Oncor's smart meters in their customer dashboards. TXU Energy, Reliant, and other major REPs show daily and hourly usage graphs.
Why smart meter data matters: Knowing your usage patterns helps you choose between fixed-rate, time-of-use, and free nights/weekends plans. A customer who uses most electricity overnight might save significantly on a free nights plan. A customer with flat daytime usage does better on a standard fixed rate.
Oncor reads your smart meter remotely. No meter reader visits your home. Bills reflect your actual 15-minute usage rather than estimates.
