It started with a spreadsheet.
We're electricity shoppers who got tired of the games. So we learned how the industry works—and started sharing what we found.
The origin story
In 2009, Brad moved from California to Texas and discovered something strange: he had to choose his electricity provider. In California, you get one utility. No options. So all these Texas choices felt unnecessarily complicated.
So he built a spreadsheet. That spreadsheet became a website. That website became ComparePower.com, which has now helped millions of Texans find better electricity rates.
ElectricRates.org is the next chapter. Same team, same approach—now serving Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts.

Why we do this
Here's the thing: electricity marketing is designed to confuse you. "Free nights" that cost more than fixed rates. Tiered pricing that buries the real rate in footnotes. Teaser rates that jump after month one. Promo codes that are just affiliate tracking with a different name.
We're consumers too. We've paid the bills, read the fine print, and done the math. We know what it feels like to realize you've been paying more than you should have—because someone made the pricing deliberately hard to understand.
So we built the tools we wish existed. Enter your ZIP code, see what you're paying, compare it to what's available. No tricks, no gotchas. Just the math.
When you comparison shop, you keep the suppliers honest. And when you understand their pricing tactics, you can beat them at their own game. That's the playbook we're sharing.

Who you're working with
Enri Zhulati
Consumer Advocate
Enri knows the regulations, the fine print, and the tricks some suppliers use. He's spent years learning how to spot hidden fees, misleading teaser rates, and contracts that sound good but cost more. His goal: help people avoid the traps and find plans that save money.
Brad Gregory
Consumer Advocate
Brad has analyzed thousands of electricity plans since 2009. He understands how electricity pricing works, why some "low" rates end up costing more, and what to look for in an Electricity Facts Label. He writes to help people make sense of a confusing market.
Han Hwang
Consumer Advocate
Han helps consumers in deregulated states understand their electricity options. He breaks down confusing rate structures, explains how to read an EFL, and identifies which plans save money versus those that just look cheap upfront.
The philosophy
Show the full picture
Advertised rates hide a lot. We calculate what you'll pay—fees, usage tiers, and all.
Do the math for you
Reading EFL documents and calculating real rates? Nobody has time for that. We do.
Keep them honest
Competition only works when you shop. Every time you compare, suppliers have to compete for your business.
Here's the process
Enter your ZIP code
See what suppliers are available in your area and what they're charging.
Compare your options
See how supplier rates compare to your utility's current price. Everything calculated—fees included.
Set it and forget it
Sign up once, everything is handled. Rates are checked every day and you're switched when it saves money.
Why you might be overpaying
Rates change constantly. What was a good deal six months ago might not be anymore.
Shopping takes time. You don't have hours to compare plans and read the fine print.
Switching feels risky. Even when you find a better rate, paperwork and uncertainty keep you stuck.
Smart Enroll
It's the automatic rate monitoring and switching service. Set it once, the rest is handled.
