UGI Utilities is a Pennsylvania-based utility providing natural gas and electricity service. UGI is a subsidiary of UGI Corporation, a publicly traded energy distribution company with operations across the U.S. and Europe.^[1]

UGI has two main divisions in Pennsylvania. UGI Gas serves approximately 700,000 natural gas customers across large parts of the state. UGI Electric serves roughly 62,000 electric customers in parts of Luzerne and Wyoming counties in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The electric and gas divisions operate independently. Having UGI gas service does not mean you have UGI electric—most UGI gas customers get electricity from a different utility like PPL Electric or PECO. The electric service territory is much smaller than the gas territory.

With approximately 62,000 customers, UGI Electric is one of the smaller electric utilities in Pennsylvania. For comparison, PECO serves over 1.6 million customers and PPL Electric serves over 1.4 million.

UGI Gas provides natural gas delivery for heating, cooking, and water heating. Like electricity in deregulated states, Pennsylvania allows natural gas shopping too. You can choose a competitive natural gas supplier while UGI continues delivering the gas through its pipeline network.

UGI Electric bills include delivery charges (regulated by PA PUC) and supply charges (default or competitive supplier).

Delivery charges cover infrastructure maintenance, meter reading, and grid operations. These are the same regardless of which supplier you choose. Supply charges cover the actual electricity generation.
